Council supports Kerang Saleyards

Gannawarra Shire Council will continue to work with interested parties in relation to the possibility of future cattle sales on-site at the Kerang Saleyards.

Scanclear Pty Ltd notified Council of its intention to relinquish its lease of the saleyards in February, with the agreement expiring on Sunday.

Council management have met with local cattle sellers and other interest parties in recent weeks regarding the prospect of future sales occurring at the Markets Road side.

“Unfortunately very few sales have been held at the site during the past year,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Council has met with interested parties, including agents and others concerned about the future of the site, to discuss options.

“Council will continue to maintain the saleyards in the hope that a suitable option to hold sales at the site is found.”

Meanwhile, the on-site truck wash will remain operational, with the facility reverting to Council management.
