Transition booklet Murrabit

Parents and guardians of children beginning primary school and secondary school education next year will benefit from the launch of Gannawarra Shire Council’s School Transition in Gannawarra booklet.

Launched today at Murrabit Group School by Deputy Mayor Charlie Gillingham, the third edition of the 32-page booklet provides information on all primary and secondary schools located within the Gannawarra, as well as Swan Hill Specialist School.

“The transition booklet allows schools across the Shire to communicate their strengths to potential students by outlaying their philosophies and values, facilities, subjects and electives offered,” Cr Gillingham said.

“We encourage you to arrange tours of our different schools or for you to attend formal transition activities that are also outlined in this publication.”

The booklet also provides guidance to assist with the transition process – whether it is from kindergarten to primary school education or moving from Grade Six to Year Seven. These details range from preparing for the school routine for future Preps to mental health guidance.

“Parents of children moving into these milestone years are encouraged to read the information included in the booklet advising strategies to help your child adjust to the new routines.  Both the shift to secondary school and primary school include a heightened degree of responsibility,” Cr Gillingham said.

All children enrolling in Prep or Year 7 in 2020 have been given a copy of the School Transition in Gannawarra booklet.  A number of schools have already commenced their transition program looking ahead to next year with information sessions and ‘Come and Try’ events.

Copies of the School Transition in Gannawarra booklet are available from Council Service Centres, Gannawarra Library Service branches, or online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au.
