Sampson's Bridge closed from 6 May

Works to replace a bridge that has spanned Pyramid Creek for the past five decades will begin on 6 May.

Motorists are advised that Kerang-Leitchville Road will be impacted by works to replace Sampson’s Bridge, with the structure to be out of use for approximately eight weeks.

“The works will consist of replacing the current structure with a dual-lane concrete bridge,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Residents are reminded to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements for their travel during this closure period.”

Signage advising of the pending closure is currently located either side of the bridge, with detours to be put in place when the replacement of the bridge begins.

“Sampson’s Bridge is an important transport route for the area and the region, particularly the dairy and agriculture sector, providing a vital interstate and intrastate transport link, including to New South Wales and the Victorian regional centres of Swan Hill, Mildura, Echuca and Shepparton,” Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Development, Geoff Rollinson said.

“We have found that the Sampson’s Bridge route is increasingly being used to transport heavier loads than in the past, which has put pressure on the current structure.”

The bridge replacement project is being supported by $471,350 from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
