Works to replace Sampson’s Bridge with a dual-lane concrete structure have been delayed and will now begin on Monday, 13 May.

The removal of the bridge, which spans Pyramid Creek on Kerang-Leitchville Road, was scheduled to begin on Monday, 6 May, but recent wet weather has impacted the project’s timeline.

“Last week’s rainfall across the north of the State has led to the delay of works to replace Sampson’s Bridge,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Council looks forward to the start of works on-site and the completion of the project, which will improve road conditions for local motorists and those travelling through the area.”

Detours will be in place when works begin, with motorists using Kerang-Leitchville Road to travel between Leitchville and Kerang advised to use Greens Road, Cohuna-McMillans Road, Semples Road, Crichtons Road, Mead Road and the Murray Valley Highway.

It is anticipated the bridge replacement works will take approximately eight weeks to complete.

“Motorists are advised to plan ahead and add extra time to their travels to accommodate the detours,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“Council thanks residents and motorists for their patience as these important works occur.”

The bridge replacement project is being supported by $471,350 from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
