Work is underway to rejuvenate a section of Victoria Street, Kerang left vacant by the recent removal of a tree.

Council work crews have started converting the former garden area outside Patchell Plaza into a raised lawn area.

Council confirmed in February its plans to rejuvenate the area following the removal of a Manna Gum stump from the area.

“The weather is now conducive to enable the rejuvenation of this space to occur,” Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Development, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Once works are complete, the raised lawn area will mirror the four other pods located throughout Victoria Square, whilst the planting of an evergreen tree will provide year-round shade for visitors to the precinct.”

Council approved the proposal to rejuvenate the garden area in late 2018 after investigations conducted by two independent arborists found that the Manna Gum needed to be removed due to public safety concerns.

“The upper section of the tree was removed in December 2018, with secondary works completed in February,” Mr Rollinson said.
