Container Deposit Scheme

The container deposit scheme (CDS) rewards Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return to an eligible collection point.

Similar programs have been established across Australia since the 1970s, which has helped create a cleaner stream of material for recycling, reduce the number of bottles, cans and containers ending up in landfill or on local streets, and provided an alternative fundraising option for community groups.
