2022/23 swimming pools season extended
Published on 01 March 2023
Gannawarra Shire Council’s outdoor swimming pools at Cohuna and Kerang will remain open for one extra week than originally planned.
Initially scheduled to close at 7pm Sunday, 12 March, both pools will be open daily from 3pm-7pm until Sunday, 19 March following the receipt of a Kerang Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club petition to extend Council’s Swimming Pool season.
“The Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools are not only a great place to keep cool, but the ideal location for local children to learn to swim,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“By Council acting upon this Kerang Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club petition, swimming club participants who train or complete lessons at both pools will be able to swim in a safe location, making up for time lost at the start of the season due to inclement weather.”
As part of the recommendation endorsed at the February 2023 Council Meeting, Council investigated potentially further extending the end of the season until early April, discussing potential options with the Cohuna and Kerang swimming clubs.
“Unfortunately staffing availability limited the opportunity to expand the season beyond 19 March,” Mr Rollinson said.
“We thank the Cohuna and Kerang swimming clubs for their understanding regarding these limitations and look forward to welcoming both clubs back to their respective pools for the 2023/24 season later this year.”
