Motorists who use Appin South Road are benefiting from the recent upgrade of the Appin South Bridge.
Closed to traffic between late March and late July, the $820,000 project involved replacing the former wooden bridge with a dual-lane concrete structure.
“The Appin South Bridge is a major infrastructure asset, as it provides vehicle access to the Loddon Valley Highway for both residents and key services,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“This new structure enables safer access across the Loddon River for motorists, and will support current and emerging industries around the southern part of the Gannawarra for future decades.
“These works also build on the recent upgrades of the Boort-Quambatook Road and Sampson’s bridges, with these three projects pivotal to the movement of freight throughout the Gannawarra.”
The bridge remains under traffic management until the sealing of the road surface either side of the new structure is completed.
“It is anticipated these works will be completed in the next three weeks, weather permitting,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council thanks motorists and residents for their patience whilst the upgrading of this important bridge was completed.”
The Appin South Bridge replacement program was supported by $410,000 from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program and a $273,333 contribution from Regional Roads Victoria’s Fixing Country Roads program.
