Apply to operate a container deposit scheme collection point
Published on 28 June 2023
Local businesses, community organisations and sporting groups are encouraged to consider applying to operate a container deposit scheme collection point in the Gannawarra.
With the State Government introducing a Container Deposit Scheme across the State in November 2023, residents will be rewarded with a 10-cent refund on any eligible drink containers, such as cans, cartons and bottles, that are taken to a container deposit scheme collection point for recycling.
“The Container Deposit Scheme aims to reduce litter whilst encouraging residents to return their high quality recyclable containers directly to a collection point which will help increase the number of cans, cartons and bottles recycled into new products,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“The scheme will also provide community groups, schools and sporting groups with an alternative way to raise funds to support local projects.”
As part of the implementation of the Container Deposit Scheme, Visy – which will operate the program for the Loddon, Mallee and Hume regions – is seeking enquiries from local businesses, community organisations and sporting groups interested in operating a container deposit scheme collection point in the municipality.
Successful applicants will be required to be operate their collection point for at least 16 hours Monday-Friday and 8 hours across weekends.
