Big Summer Read returns

Children throughout the Gannawarra are encouraged to keep reading or listening to books this summer, with the Big Summer Read program returning.

The Gannawarra Library Service is supporting the Public Libraries Victoria program, running from Thursday, 1 December 2022 to Tuesday, 31 January 2023, which aims to keep children engaged in reading during the summer school holidays.

“Last year’s Big Summer Read program was a success, with children and their families taking time out of their school holidays to read, with some participants even lucky enough to win some great prizes on offer,” Gannawarra Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

As part of the Big Summer Read, children will be able to keep track of the books they read via the Beanstack app or paper-based packs available for collection from library branches at Cohuna, Kerang, Leitchville and Quambatook.

“This year’s program has been expanded to include children aged 0-18 years, meaning babies, preschool children and youth can log any book they read, is read to them, or listened to as an audiobook.”

Participants who log at least 10 books will be in the running to win one of three Readings gift vouchers presented Statewide, to be awarded across the 0-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-18 years age categories, as well as one of three $100 variety gift cards for Gannawarra Library Service members.

Children can register to participate in the Big Summer Read by downloading the Beanstack app, available from the Apple App or Google Play stores, or by contacting your local Gannawarra Library Service branch.
