Changes to various Gannawarra Shire Council services initiated as part of the current COVID-19 lockdown will remain in place.
The changes, which came into effect as part of the State Government’s efforts to kerb COVID-19 outbreaks across Victoria, will be in place until 11.59pm Tuesday, July 27.
“Council is playing a proactive role in protecting staff and residents from any potential outbreaks at this time,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“With this in mind, we ask residents for their understanding at this time and look forward to welcoming people back to these programs and services when restrictions ease. “
The changes, which are currently in place until restrictions are eased as deemed by the State Government, include:
- The closure of Gannawarra Library Service branches at Cohuna, Kerang, Leitchville and Quambatook. Members can borrow books at this time by contacting their local library branch or visiting www.gsc.vic.gov.au/libraries;
- The closure of the Kerang Exercise Pool, with Warra Waders swimming lessons cancelled;
- The closure of the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre;
- The cancellation of any facility bookings during this time;
- The cancellation of Social Meals sessions planned during the lockdown period;
- The cancellation of the L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program; and
- The cancellation of the Three-Year-Old Kindergarten information session planned for Leitchville on Wednesday, 21 July.
The extension of the lockdown period will also impact the July 2021 Council Meeting, with the meeting to be closed to the public. This meeting, occurring on Wednesday, 21 July from 6.30pm, will be livestreamed at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/livestream with the video available to be viewed after proceedings from the same website.

“Please note that during this time residents may only leave their home for one of five reasons. These are to shop for food and supplies; authorised work reasons; care and caregiving; exercise for up two hours and with one other person, or receiving a vaccination,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Face coverings must be carried at all times, and must be worn indoors and outdoors except within your own home, or if an exemption applies.”
