Celebrations will occur throughout Kerang’s central business district on Thursday, 17 April to mark the official opening of Stages 3 and 4 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment.
Occurring as part of the Kerang Traders’ Easter Fair, the opening will recognise the completion of the $2.54 million project, fully funded by Phases 3 and 4 of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
“Stages 3 and 4 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment have transformed Kerang’s central business district, with the project making it easier for visitors to this area to explore what businesses have on offer, whilst our traders are benefiting from the extra foot traffic,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
The project, completed between March 2023 and August 2024, included upgrading paving along Victoria and Wellington streets, installing wider footpaths along Fitzroy Street and improving street furniture and landscaping.
The project also involved redesigning kerbing along a section of Victoria Street, enabling easier access for pedestrians accessing vehicles and stores, whilst new lighting illuminates the Karlie McDonald Memorial clock tower.
“These works tie in with improvements to the Kerang CBD completed during the past nine years, including the Scoresby Street upgrade and the internationally recognised Victoria Square precinct,” Mr Rollinson said.
The official opening will occur on the day at 4pm at Victoria Square.
Various attractions will occur between 11am and 4.30pm thanks to Kerang Traders and Northern District Community Health, including live music, footpath trading, children’s activities and pop-up stalls.
“Come along on the day and explore what Kerang has to offer,” Mr Rollinson said.
