Changes to Meals on Wheels arrangements
Published on 25 March 2020
Gannawarra Shire Council will continue to provide its popular Meals on Wheels program to residents during the current Coronavirus pandemic, but with alternative arrangements.
The program, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, sees more than 250 volunteers located throughout the Gannawarra deliver more than 10,000 meals to residents.
“Run in partnership with Cohuna District Hospital and Kerang District Health, the Meals on Wheels program would not be possible without the dedicated group of volunteers who give one hour of their time each month to deliver a hot meal to residents,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“However, to limit the spread of Coronavirus, it is important that we find ways for this service to continue whilst protecting the health of both volunteers and residents.”
The alternative arrangements, which come into effect from Monday, 30 March, include:
- The delivery of fresh and frozen meals on Mondays and Thursdays; and
- A reduction in the number of volunteers used.
“Council is currently in the process of advising volunteers and those who receive meals regarding these changes," Mayor Learmonth said.
“Council thanks the community for their understanding at this time.”
