Changes to Sir John Gorton Library meeting room arrangements

Visitors to Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library are advised that the venue’s meeting room and genealogy space will be closed from Tuesday, 25 February until the completion of The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra.

Construction of what will become the Gannawarra’s newest community meeting and digital connectivity space hit another milestone last week with the pouring of the building’s foundations.

“The pouring of the foundations of The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra is an exciting milestone for this project, as it will enable visitors to the site to see how large this new space is and how it will connect to the already popular Sir John Gorton Library,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“During the coming weeks work will occur to install the building’s walls, which will bring this much-needed project one step closer to completion.”

Whilst the works are occurring, community groups can still book to use the library’s foyer for meetings, however there will be no kitchen facilities available or access to the smart TV currently located in the building’s meeting room.

There are various facilities for community groups seeking to meet in Kerang during these construction works, including the Council-managed Kerang Senior Citizens Centre and Kerang Memorial Hall supper room. For bookings or more information, visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au/venues or phone (03) 5450 9333.

The library foyer will also be accessible during opening hours, however there may be excessive noise whilst construction works occur.

“The genealogy room will be retained as part of The Glasshouse @ The Gannawarra project, whilst the existing meeting room will become part of the foyer that connects the new building to the current library building,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Council thanks regular visitors to the Sir John Gorton Library for their understanding as these works occur and look forward to sharing the municipality’s newest multi-purpose community meeting and digital connectivity space with you when construction is completed later this year.”
