A delayed opening to the Cohuna pool season for 2016/17 was the result of an unexpected mechanical failure the week prior to opening.

Council’s Director Infrastructure and Development Geoff Rollinson said everything was on track leading up to the scheduled opening date, until just days prior.

"The main filtration pump which runs the entire Cohuna Pool facility decided it would no longer work after a week of running. A replacement pump was immediately ordered, but transport delays meant it was unable to be installed in time to open on the scheduled date," Mr Rollinson explains.

"The new pump was installed on Wednesday 16th November and cleaning and chemical dosing is now underway to get the pools operable as soon as possible."

Council would like to let the community know that the pool water colour will appear a little murky to start with, but is completely safe to swim in, and will clear over the coming weeks.

"Council do sincerely apologise for this delay, and can rest assured that staff are working tirelessly to try and alleviate any further delays for the community," Mr Rollinson said.

The revised scheduled opening date for the Cohuna Pool is Sunday 20 November and to thank the community for their patience, entry to the Cohuna pool on Sunday will be free of charge.

Council are still looking for senior pool staff to assist at both Kerang and Cohuna pools over the summer. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Brent at Council on 5450 9333.
