Community Care services continuing during Coronavirus pandemic

Gannawarra Shire Council’s Community Care team are continuing to provide services to the community during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Staff provide more than 24,000 hours of care to residents through the Commonwealth Home Support Program, Home and Community Care Program for Younger People, National Disability Insurance Scheme and Veterans Home Care.
“Services offered by Council’s Community Care staff include domestic care, personal care, meal delivery and property maintenance, just to name a few,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“We have been developing new processes to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our staff, clients, carers and families, while ensuring our services remain in order to meet your needs throughout this period.
“Our services comply with social distancing measures, with staff having undertaken specific COVID-19 infection control training and using personal protective equipment where appropriate.”
Services that are available for residents at this time include:
- Meal preparation in the home, which involves staff cooking several simple meals in residents’ homes to enjoy throughout the week;
- Sharing a cuppa and a chat for those who may be feeling lonely during social isolation;
- Accompanying residents who may be concerned about exercising on their own;
- Providing transportation and assistance for those having difficulty accessing the supermarket, chemist, hairdresser and other essential services; and
- Providing transportation to medical appointments and therapy-based services located within the Gannawarra Shire.
