A Gannawarra Shire Council-coordinated project to develop community plans for six communities has reached a key milestone.

Residents in the Lakes District, Lalbert, Leitchville, Macorna/Tragowel, Murrabit/Myall/Benjeroop, and Quambatook communities have been working with Council to shape community plans as part of the Connecting Gannawarra project.

Funded by the Agriculture-Dependent Community Resilience Project, the project builds on community planning work undertaken since 2008.

“It has been great to see residents from these six communities take the time during March and early April to tell us what makes their community great and what improvements they would like to see occur,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

Residents were able to participate in the first stage of the project in various ways, including completing a survey online or at locations in each of the communities, or attending drop-in sessions, community meetings and listening post held in towns throughout the municipality from mid-March to early April.

“Project facilitators will spend the coming weeks collating all information received and will hold meetings with each community during May and June to determine that the community priorities you have identified are correct,” Mr Rollinson said.

“From there, draft versions of community plans for each participating community will be developed, which will be available for further feedback later this year.”
