Council Meeting Wrap – August 2021

The membership request for Council to join Timber Towns Victoria, the release of the Draft Financial Plan out for public comment and adoption of the 2021 – 2025 Council Plan highlighted the Gannawarra Shire Council’s August 2021 meeting.

Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Clubrooms last Wednesday 18th of  August, the major highlight of the meeting was the adoption of the 2021 – 2025 Council Plan, Community Vision and Year One Action Plan.  The Council Plan centres around three goals of Liveabilty, Growth and Sustainability which was developed after significant community consultation over the past 6 months.

The 2021 – 2025 Council Plan and Year One Action Plan also incorporate the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, that identifies evidence based goals and strategies for creating a local community in which people can achieve maximum health and wellbeing.

Councillors also endorsed the release of the Draft Financial Plan for public comment. This Plan was emphasised as an important document that focuses on the long-term financial future of the Gannawarra Shire.

Residents are encouraged to have their say regarding the Draft Financial Plan online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/financialplan up to 5pm on Friday, 24 September. All submissions received will help formulate the final version of the Financial Plan, which is to be presented to Council at its Meeting on Wednesday, 20 October 2021.

Councillors also carried a motion to become a financial member of Timber Towns Victoria and appointed Cr Garner Smith as Council’s representative on the Committee.

Other outcomes from the meeting included:

•             The endorsement of one policy – Dogs and Cats (Designated Areas) and the repeal of Policy 069 Roads (Drainage).

•             A Motion to call for a report to the next Council meeting to consider authorising a contribution of up to $50,000 to the Murray Border Region Government
              Advocacy Initiative.
