Council Meeting wrap - December 2023
Published on 21 December 2023
The accepting of an expression of interest to seek energy companies to develop power generation and storage facilities on two Council-managed parcels of land was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s final meeting for 2023.
Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on 20 December 2023, the key item of discussion was Kig Energy’s proposed construction of small-scale solar energy generation facilities at the Kerang Aerodrome and Kerang Transfer Station.
The proposal follows on from Council’s decision in July 2020 to authorise the leasing of a 12-hectare parcel of land within the Kerang Aerodrome for the purpose of construction, commissioning and operating a 5-megawatt solar micro grid.
Other outcomes of the meeting included:
- Receiving and noting the summary of discussions of the Audit and Risk Committee meeting held on 14 November 2023;
- Adopting the list of committee memberships, and Councillor delegates or representatives to each, for 2023/24;
- Receiving and noting a report on the activities and performances of Council’s three Community Asset Committees – Community Halls Community Asset Committee, Leitchville War Memorial Swimming Pool Community Asset Committee, and Quambatook Caravan Park Community Asset Committee; and
- That Council officers provide a report on the estimated impact to tourism in the municipality due to the artificial flooding of Gunbower Forest between 2000 and 2023.
Two questions from the public were also addressed during the meeting, focusing on infrastructure upgrades and fencing options for the Atkinson Park, Kerang playground.
