Council Meeting wrap - May 2024
Published on 16 May 2024
The adoption of the Kerang Active Recreation Corridor Masterplan, which outlines suggested improvements to four key recreation precincts within Kerang, was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s May 2024 meeting.
Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on Wednesday, 15 May, the meeting saw the adoption of the municipality’s second masterplan for key recreational spaces within this councillor term, following on from the adoption of the Cohuna Recreation Reserve Masterplan in 2022.
Developed with support of $30,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria, Council worked with consultants and users of Atkinson Park, Kerang Regional Park, Riverside Park and the Sir John Gorton precinct to develop a masterplan that outlines future development opportunities.
Council and land managers of each of these sites will be able to use the masterplan to seek State and Federal government funding to complete the various improvements listed in the document.
Other outcomes of the meeting included:
- Receiving and noting the 2023/2024 Quarterly Budget Report as of 31 March 2024;
- Endorsing a new policy – Public Street Lighting – and accompanying procedure to proceed to the community engagement stage, with feedback to be accepted up to 5pm Friday, 7 June;
- Revising the dates for the remaining Australian Citizenship ceremonies planned for 2024 to ensure these dates do not clash with Federal Parliamentary sitting days; and
- Requesting Council officers prepare a report to bring a revision of the Gannawarra Aquatic Strategy to the June 2024 Council meeting to reconsider timing in relation to the delivery of new aquatic facilities at Cohuna and Kerang.
