Council Meeting wrap - November 2021
Published on 18 November 2021
The awarding of the tender for the construction of the Kerang All Abilities Play Space and Changing Places Facility and the adoption of the Road Management Plan 2021 highlighted Gannawarra Shire Council’s November 2021 meeting.
Held virtually via Zoom and broadcast via Council’s website, the meeting featured the awarding of the tender for the Kerang All Abilities Play Space and Changing Places Facility project to CJ & BT McLoughlan.
The $1.1 million project, supported by a $1 million contribution from the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, involves the construction of an all abilities play space at Atkinson Park, Kerang adjacent to the current playground.
The project also involves the construction of the first Changing Places facility in the municipality, which provides amenities for people who cannot utilise standard accessible toilets, enabling people with high support needs to fully participate in the community.
Council’s Road Management Plan 2021, which assists Council to implement its duties as outlined in the Road Management Act, was also adopted during the meeting. Community feedback was sought regarding the document, which outlines the frequency Council inspects its roads and footpaths, what Council defines as a hazard and defect, and within what timeframe Council will rectify a hazard or defect.
Meanwhile, Council confirmed its meeting dates for 2022. As in previous years, meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre at 6.30pm, except for January, with no meeting scheduled for that month. Any changes to these arrangements will be promoted via Gannawarra Connect, Gannawarra News and Council’s Facebook page.
Other outcomes from the meeting included:
- Confirmation that Australian Citizenship ceremonies are scheduled for 26 January 2022, 5 April 2022, 5 July 2022 and 4 October 2022;
- Confirmation of Councillor representation on local, regional and State organisation committees for 2021/22;
- The endorsement of the reviewed Hiring of Indoor Council Facilities policy; and
- The noting of the 2021/2022 quarterly Financial Report as at 30 September 2021.
