Confirmation of dates, times and locations for Council meetings and Australian Citizenship ceremonies for 2025 was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s November 2024 meeting.

Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on Wednesday, 27 November, the key item of discussion was the schedule of Council meetings for 2025.

Eleven meetings will be held next year between February and December, all occurring at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on the third Wednesday of the month from 6pm. Residents are welcome to attend any of these meetings, which will be recorded and a video placed on Council’s website within 24 hours of the meeting’s conclusion.

Councillors also confirmed that four Australian Citizenship ceremonies will be held during 2025. Ceremonies will be held on Australia Day, 26 January, as well as 28 April, 28 July and 20 October.

Meanwhile, reports from Council and the Cohuna Aerodrome Redevelopment Board in response to a Notice of Motion adopted at the September 2024 meeting were noted. A request by the Cohuna Aerodrome Redevelopment Board for Council to provide $350,000 to build a terminal at the Cohuna Airfield to service Air Ambulance Victoria personnel and private pilots or passengers was deferred, dependent on the board providing a report on the intended use of the requested funds and its current audited financial position.

Other outcomes of the meeting included:

  • Receiving and noting the Annual Financial Statement – Cash Analysis report, tabled in response to a resolution at the September 2024 Council meeting;
  • Receiving and noting the 2024/25 Quarterly Budget Report as of 30 September 2024;
  • Adopting the list of committee memberships, and Councillor delegates or representatives to each, for 2024/25; and
  • Rescinding Policy No. 078 – Councillor Code of Conduct, which is replaced by the Model Code of Conduct, prescribed in Schedule 1 to the Local Government (Governance and Integrity) Regulations 2020.

Questions from the public relating to protecting properties in the Kerang West area from future flooding were also addressed.
