Council supporting potential Heywire participants

Gannawarra Shire residents aged between 16-22 years considering entering this year’s ABC Heywire Competition are encouraged to participate in a free Gannawarra Library Service-organised storytelling webinar.
Facilitated by ABC producer, Katie McAllister, the webinar, occurring on Sunday, 18 July at 2.30pm, will provide an insight into the competition and answer any questions that local budding storytellers may have.
“Those attending this special event will gain confidence in writing their application for the ABC Heywire Competition, learning useful tips and strategies that will help them to get started,” Gannawarra Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Phil Higgins said.
The event is part of the ABC Heywire competition, which showcases stories from young people living in rural and regional Australia about what a day in the life of where they live is like. Applicants are required to submit a piece about an aspect of their life either in 400 words, 10 images, through a 2-4-minute short video or as a 2-4-minute audio recording.
“The stories developed will allow our young people to highlight their Gannawarra community, detailing how it may have added to who they are, who they want to become or how they may have contributed to it,” Mr Higgins said.
With up to 40 successful applicants selected each year, those who apply gain the chance of winning a trip to the Heywire Regional Youth Summit in Canberra, as well as be featured on ABC TV and radio.
To register for the workshop and learn more about the competition, email mywarra@gsc.vic.gov.au or visit http://mywarra.com before 5pm Wednesday, 14 July.
