Gannawarra Shire Council is asking residents to be patient with its Local Laws and Planning teams as these services undergo transitional phases.

The Local Laws team, which looks after animal management, municipal permits, school crossing supervisors and the management of municipal laws, and Planning team, which oversees planning permit applications and Council’s adherence to the Gannawarra Planning Scheme, are currently operating with limited resources due to employment vacancies.

During the transition period, Council’s Local Laws team will prioritise core emergency services, including immediate responses to situations involving livestock incidents and ongoing animal attacks. Monitoring adherence to municipal laws will also occur when required. Council’s Planning team will prioritise planning permit applications previously received or currently being processed.

“Our Local Laws and Planning teams are committed to maintaining public safety and regulatory requirements, addressing critical incidents with the urgency and effectiveness that our community expects,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“We are actively working to resolve the staffing shortage and anticipate a return to full-service capacity in the near future. In the meantime, we appreciate the community's understanding and patience. Council remains focused on delivering essential services and ensuring public safety during this period.”

For emergencies involving local laws matters, residents are urged to contact Council on (03) 5450 9333 between 8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday or 0409 022 920 outside of these times. For all other inquiries, please phone (03) 5450 9333 or visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au

“We will continue to keep residents informed and updated on our progress. We thank you for your continued support and understanding during this transitional phase,” Mr Rollinson said.
