Easter, April events supported by flood recovery funding
Published on 08 March 2024
Fourteen events planned during the upcoming Easter and April holiday periods will share in over $40,000 of Gannawarra flood recovery funding thanks to the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee.
As part of the Gannawarra’s recovery from the 2022 floods and the 2023/2024 storm and flash flooding events, community groups, organisations and local live music venues were invited to apply for up to $5,000 to support new and existing events, programs, and activities over the upcoming Easter and April holiday periods.
“The Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee thanks all who submitted an application for what became a popular funding opportunity with over $55,000 worth of events and activities submitted,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“While not all events could be funded to the full amount applied for, the successful applications will help support Gannawarra residents to connect and provide a unique point of difference to attract visitors to the Gannawarra over the upcoming holiday periods.”
Events that will benefit from funding include traditional Easter long weekend highlights, such as the Quambatook Tractor Pull, Murrabit Country Market, Kerang Easter Tennis Tournament, and Kerang Turf Club Easter Saturday race meet, as well as activities planned for the school holidays and ANZAC Day.
“It is fantastic to see community groups think creatively to develop event and program proposals that will benefit people of all ages and help bring people to Gannawarra,” Mr Rollinson said.
“Live music venues were also eligible to apply for music events as part of the State and Commonwealth funded flood recovery program to add to the entertainment on offer in Gannawarra across the Easter long weekend.
“Council acknowledges the support of partner agencies involved in the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee for helping to bring together this exciting calendar of events for the benefit of our residents and visitors.”
Funding is supported by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
