The document that sets out a five-year vision for the Gannawarra’s economy has been adopted.
Councillors adopted Gannawarra Shire Council’s Economic Development Strategy 2019-2024 at the November Ordinary Council meeting.
Placed on display for public comment during August and September 2019, the document provides an economic overview of the Gannawarra and outlines four strategic directions for the next five years:
- Facilitate the development of a diverse agricultural sector;
- Drive population growth through business and lifestyle attraction;
- Facilitate the development of the Gannawarra as an environmental leader; and
- Develop the tourism sector through improvements in product and infrastructure.
“Council’s Economic Development Strategy 2019-2024 draws on the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021 and other documents to capture the strategic directions of Council and community, while analysing the current economic climate to determine strategic actions aimed at maximising the economic value of the Gannawarra,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“Over recent years local economic circumstances have changed considerably with issues relating to water policy and pricing, climate variability, demographic changes, agricultural volatility and the changing patterns of retail consumers.
“The updated strategy highlights the natural strengths of the local area and how these built and environmental assets can be better utilised to diversify and stimulate the local economy.”
