Residents will be able to enjoy the story of one man’s migrant experience from the comfort of home for free later this month.

Gannawarra Shire Council is pleased to be partnering with Critical Stages and local community member, Angela Hird to screen A Migrant’s Son online on Saturday, 28 November at 7.30pm.

Initially scheduled as the final performance of Council’s 2020 Arts and Culture program, the broadcast will be the first Council-supported artistic event held since COVID-19 restrictions were implemented in March.

“Council is looking forward to sharing this full theatre pre-recorded production, which was filmed for a live audience at the Hopgood Theatre, Noarlunga in September,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Michaela Burger’s tribute to her Greek migrant family and hard-working, fun loving larrikin father, Luke, is conveyed through original music, performed by a live band and a bouzouki player.

“Viewers will traverse 100 years from Russia to the Australian outback, following the hardship, ingenuity, tragedy and triumph present in all migrants’ stories.”

To register to view this special event, please visit www.trybooking.com/BMJWP or contact Council’s Customer Service team on (03) 5450 9333. All registered ticket holders will receive a link and all relevant information to view the performance prior to 28 November.

Viewers will also have the option to purchase a Greek-inspired picnic basket that will feed the family.

“Included with this basket is a recipe for a traditional Greek meal that you can cook up on the night, as well as other tips on hosting friends for the event,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“All proceeds from the baskets will go towards a local charity. Any specific questions regarding the baskets can be directed to Angela Hird by emailing aahird@westnet.com.au.”
