Although the Gannawarra Library Service’s branches are currently closed as part of measures to stop the spread of Coronavirus, two of the service’s popular children’s programs are continuing.
The Rhyme Time and Story Time programs, which aim to develop a passion for stories for children aged from six months through to kindergarten, are continuing online via the Gannawarra Library Service’s Facebook page.
“The Gannawarra Library Service is proud to be continuing these programs through our digital channels,” Council’s Director of Community Wellbeing, Stacy Williams said.
“Our dedicated staff are recording sessions, which can be viewed at any time.”
Stay at Home Rhyme Time sessions - which include songs and rhymes to assist with the development of early language, literacy and numeracy skills – will continue on Wednesdays at 11am, with a new video uploaded weekly.
The library service’s Stay at Home Story Time program - which uses stories and songs to develop a love for reading - will occur on Thursdays at 11am.
“Library service staff were heartened by the response to our first online Stay at Home Story Time session, held prior to the Easter long weekend, and look forward to the expansion of our programs via our online resources,” Mrs Williams said.
“The continuation of these programs complement our range of free online resources for members. These include Beamafilm, BorrowBox, Story Box Library, Studiosity and Britannica Library.”
