Enjoy summer at the Gannawarra's pools
Published on 30 November 2020
Gannawarra Shire Council-managed outdoor swimming pools at Cohuna and Kerang will extend operating hour from tomorrow, 1 December.
The Gannawarra’s two major outdoor pools will be open from 10am to 8pm daily during summer, as well as between 12 noon and 7pm on public holidays except for Christmas Day, with both pools closed.
“The Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools are popular places to keep cool each summer, with this year no exception,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Both facilities have experienced higher than average attendances in the first two weeks of the season, thanks to the hot conditions the Gannawarra experienced at the end of November.”
Residents who enjoy an early morning swim will also benefit from the extension of opening hours, with the morning laps program running at the Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools from tomorrow until Thursday, 25 February 2021.
“The program will be held at the Cohuna Swimming Pool between 6.30am and 8.30am Tuesdays and Thursdays, with sessions at the Kerang Swimming Pool occurring from 6.30am to 8.30am Wednesdays,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Council continues to implement COVIDsafe measures at this time to ensure the safety of visitors and staff, with visitors required to sign in to assist with contact tracing, and, where possible, pay for entry and kiosk items via Eftpos.
“The recent easing of COVID-19 restrictions means that visitors only need to wear a mask if social distancing cannot be maintained, with the capacity of swimming pools to increase,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“At the Kerang Swimming Pool, the maximum number of people that can use the main pool has increased to 225, with no more than 57 people able to use the intermediate swimming pool at the same time. Users of the splash park encouraged to keep 1.5 metres apart.
“The Cohuna Swimming Pool’s main pool capacity is now 107 people, with 20 people able to be in the facility’s intermediate pool at any time. No more than 10 people can be in the toddler pool at the same time.”
Meanwhile, the easing of COVID-19 restrictions will also benefit users of the Kerang Exercise Pool, with the facility reverting to its usual operating hours.
“The pool, located in Patchell Plaza, is now open from 7am to 2pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as between 11am and 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Please note that bookings are essential in either 30-minute or one-hour blocks, which can be done by phoning (03) 5450 9345 during business hours.”
