Twenty-one groups and organisations will share in $42,920 from the second round of the Gannawarra Community Resilience Grants Program.

Developed by the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee, community groups and organisations were encouraged to apply for funding to support a variety of small activities that promote social connectedness and mental health and wellbeing.

“Round 2 of this successful program saw 29 community groups and organisations apply for financial support for initiatives ranging from Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, arts projects, play spaces and exercise programs,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Projects that will receive funding all aim to unite residents and provide support to one another, which is important at this time.”

Projects and groups that have received funding include community Christmas celebrations at Lake Charm and Quambatook; New Year’s Eve parties at Cohuna, Kerang and Koondrook; dance events; exercise programs; and support for a youth space at Cohuna.

“These projects cater for all ages and interests, and will enable residents to remain connected,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“The Gannawarra Community Resilience Grants Program would not be possible without the support of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Program - Extension.”
