Final chance to apply for sporting club development opportunity

Local sporting clubs have until 5pm Thursday, 14 December to apply to participate in a club development program that will help identify issues and determine future priorities.

As part of the Gannawarra’s recovery from the October-December 2022 floods, the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee has engaged Sports Focus to investigate the flood’s impact on sporting clubs, their participants, and the broader community.

Two clubs that complete an expression of interest will be selected to work one-on-one with Sports Focus on a club development program during this 12-month opportunity.  Information provided by the two successful clubs regarding current issues – such as volunteer fatigue, burdens of regulations or reduced membership – will be used to determine future priorities and guide the development of an action plan that can be implemented with support from Sports Focus.

“Council thanks all sporting clubs who have taken the opportunity to complete an expression of interest and encourages clubs that have not considered participating to do so,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Many of the Gannawarra’s sporting clubs played a pivotal role in supporting their communities during the response and recovery phases of the October-December 2022 floods, and this program is one way Council can give back to these amazing community assets.”
