Flood-damaged road repairs to resume

Efforts to repair Gannawarra Shire Council-managed roads damaged during the 2022 floods will resume this week, following State Government approval.
Benjeroop and district residents will be the first to benefit from the resumption of these important works, made possible thanks to joint Commonwealth and State Government-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
“Council welcomes confirmation that contractors will be able to resume repairing roads damaged during the 2022 floods, which will bring some relief to residents in these areas,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Council has worked with the State Government in relation to the approval and funding process to enable the repair of roads that were damaged by our second major flood event in 11 years.
“This process is unfortunately not a Gannawarra Shire Council-specific issue, with other municipalities impacted by the 2022 floods managing similar funding arrangement concerns.”
As part of the works, repairs will occur along Little Murray Road, with contractors to then repair roads between Benjeroop, Murrabit and Capels Crossing.
“These repairs will make it easier for residents to travel to and from their properties via the quickest way possible, as well as provide greater connections between farming enterprises and services,” Mr Rollinson said.
Council is also working with contractors to confirm the timing of repairs to other roads in the municipality, including:
- Roads east of Kerang damaged by the flooding of Pyramid Creek.
- Roads within Koondrook damaged by the erection of flood protection levees.
- Roads between Koondrook and Murrabit.
Once works are ready to commence, regular updates will be provided informing of any road disruption, which will be kept to a minimum.
