Community groups, artists and organisations planning to host pre-Christmas creative activities are encouraged to contact Gannawarra Shire Council for assistance.

The Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee is offering financial support for creative events and activities across the Gannawarra leading up to Christmas 2023, as part of the ongoing recovery from the 2022 floods.

This funding opportunity follows the highly successful creative outreach program supported in July 2023 with creative workshops held across the Gannawarra in partnership with a range of community groups, neighbourhood houses and the Gannawarra Library Service.

“Council was pleased to partner with these various groups to enable various floristry, lino printing and art workshops to occur, which brought together people of all ages to reconnect and enjoy time together,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“It would be fantastic to see similar opportunities to reconnect occur as we lead into what is a special time of year for our residents.”

The current round of funding is supported by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program. Projects to be delivered in November and December 2023 will be prioritised.

Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Thursday, 19 October 2023.

“It would be great to see events again spread right across the Gannawarra so please get in touch to discuss your ideas which may include art, craft, floral or music workshops or any other form of creative activity designed to bring joy to our communities,” Mr Rollinson said.
