Community Groups located within the Gannawarra have until 5pm on Friday, 4 October to apply for up to $1,000 in funding to support community-led initiatives thanks to the Gannawarra Community Resilience Grants Program.

Developed by the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee, the $10,000 funding program has been supported financially by the Department of Health and Human Services, and is designed to support a variety of activities that promote social connectedness and mental health and wellbeing.

“It is important that as a community we continue to unite and support each other, and it is hoped that the Gannawarra Community Resilience Grants Program can contribute to initiatives that assist to keep our communities connected,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“I encourage not-for-profit community groups to look at the program guidelines, which are available on Council’s website, and determine whether any projects, activities or events planned would benefit from a funding application.”

The program guidelines detail priority areas that applicants need to consider, ranging from events that support community connectedness, workshops that build the capacity to develop localised solutions to climate change, community bus trips to locations within the Gannawarra that will boost the local economy, Christmas celebrations in small towns and activities that promote the Five Ways to Wellbeing – Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.

“Groups are encouraged to contact Council’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Katrina Thorne, to discuss their idea prior to submitting an application,” Mayor Learmonth said.

Successful applicants will be advised the week of Monday, 21 October 2019 and invited to a funding announcement morning tea with members of the Community Resilience Committee on Thursday, 31 October 2019.
