Photographs and drone footage captured during the 2022 floods will feature in the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition, which officially opens at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library on Tuesday, 26 March.
The exhibition features more than 100 images and videos taken by residents.
“Council received a significant number of items for this special exhibition, which records residents’ perspectives from what was our second major flood in the space of 11 years,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.
“The selection panel that was tasked to determine the content to feature in the exhibition selecting the final pieces, with each item reflecting how our communities prepared, responded to, and continue to recover from, these floods.”
All items that feature in the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition are professionally presented and will be returned to contributors following the exhibition’s tour, with digital images and drone footage to be retained by Council for historical purposes.
“The items collected will assist Council’s efforts to prepare for our next flood event,” Mayor Stanton said.
An official launch of the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition will be held on Wednesday, 27 March from 6pm, with the exhibition to be open to the public until Wednesday, 24 April before touring various locations throughout the municipality.
“Council is aware that community members who were impacted by the floods are at various stages in their recovery and that feelings and emotions are a normal part of recovery,” Mayor Stanton said.
“Support continues to be available for impacted residents and information will be provided as part of the exhibition if revisiting images from the floods causes concern.”
The exhibition is funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
