Gannawarra Shire Council has adopted its Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024-2029, which outlines Council’s obligations to prevent public health risk and contamination of the environment from the disposal of domestic wastewater.

The document, adopted at Council’s July 2024 meeting, will replace the most recent version of the document, developed in 2020.

“The Gannawarra Shire Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024-2029 will assist Council to fulfill its responsibilities in the assessment of domestic wastewater systems operating, or intending to be installed, within the municipality and to provide appropriate strategies and actions to manage issues relating to onsite wastewater management,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

The latest edition of the plan incorporates regulatory changes and key strategic actions that have been achieved since 2020, including the installation or expansion of town sewerage systems in Cohuna, Koondrook, Leitchville and Murrabit.

Residents were able to provide feedback on a draft version of the plan during April and May 2024, with eight submissions received. As a result of this feedback, minor changes were made to the final version of the document.

“Council thanks residents who took the time to provide feedback on this important document and looks forward to working with the community and relevant agencies to implement this plan,” Mr Rollinson said.
