Gannawarra welcomes CMCA Solo Rally

Cohuna businesses and community groups will benefit from the town hosting the Campervan Motorhome Club of Australia’s Solo Rally from 8-15 November 2019.
The Cohuna Recreation Reserve will accommodate more than 200 recreational vehicles for the eight-day event, with around 100 of those attending to make the trek to the town before the event to participate in The Big Cohuna Festival’s program of events.
“Council welcomes the CMCA Solo Rally attendees to Cohuna and the Gannawarra, which is to be one of the biggest events the area has hosted since the Cohuna Recreation Reserve was last used as an overnight campsite for Murray Marathon participants in 2010,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“The CMCA Solo Rally is adopting a Mexican theme for its 2019 event, so residents will notice many people throughout the area wearing sombreros and ponchos.
“Residents will begin to notice CMCA Solo Rally participants arriving in the Gannawarra from this weekend, with participants applying to camp at a number of locations with the relevant permits. These include the extended area of the Cohuna RV Camp area, at the northern end of the Cohuna Lawn Tennis Club’s courts, the Cohuna Pony Club grounds and adjacent to Gunbower Creek at the old sawmill site.”
Activities planned during the Solo Rally include tours to locations throughout the Gannawarra, cruises along Gunbower Creek, barefoot bowls sessions, tennis matches, evening gatherings, dances, performances and many on-site attractions.
A Market Day and Open Day, occurring at the Cohuna Recreation Reserve on Sunday, 10 November from 9am to 2pm, will enable residents to experience the festivities on offer and explore some of the vehicles that have travelled to the Gannawarra.
“The Solo Rally aims to support the community in a number of ways. Residents can set up their own stalls during the Market Day and Open Day, whilst local businesses are offering donations or discount offers for raffles prizes,” Mayor Learmonth said.
“Proceeds raised by the CMCA during the Solo Rally will be donated to the Cohuna Fire Brigade and the Gannawarra Giving Account.”
