Have a laugh these school holidays

Local young people who love the art of comedy and improvisation acting will want to take advantage of events being organised these school holidays.

Gannawarra Shire Council and Northern District Community Health have united to host three days of comedic and improvisation workshops, occurring at Cohuna and Kerang between 23-25 September 2019.

Featuring renowned comedians and performers, the four workshops planned across the three days will cater for children aged 6-18 years.

“Young people across the Gannawarra will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in comedy and drama thanks to these workshops,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Very rarely do these types of events occur within the Gannawarra, so I encourage those interested in learning more about these performance types to take part.”

Award-winning Melbourne comedian, Geraldine Hickey – who has featured in high-profile shows such as The Oxfam Comedy Gala, Upfront: The Queens of Comedy Gala, Tonightly and Comedy Next Gen - will host workshops for secondary school-aged students on Monday, 23 September at Kerang and Tuesday, 24 September at Cohuna.

Ms Hickey will then team up with fellow comedian, Luka Muller and local support acts for the Cohuna Comedy Gala, occurring at the Cohuna Memorial Hall from 6pm on Tuesday, 24 September. The Gala is free to all community members, recommended for ages 12 and above.

Meanwhile, the team from Impro Melbourne will run two drama improvisation workshops at Cohuna on Wednesday, 25 September.

The workshop hosts, who have appeared in Neighbours, Thank God You’re Here, Rockwiz and Prisoner, will provide participants the opportunity to gain an insight into the energetic world of drama improvisation.
