HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE 2017 – 2021 COUNCIL PLAN

mEDIA RELEASE

Let’s Continue the Conversation… have your say on the 2017 – 2021 Council Plan and Proposed 2017/18 Budget.

Gannawarra Mayor Brian Gibson said following extensive community consultation over the past three months, a final draft of the 2017 – 2021 Council Plan is now ready for the community to read in its entirety.

“Council staff and Councillors have been out listening, talking, and consulting with over 500 people in the community about their goals for the next four years and these conversations have been reflected into the draft Council Plan,” Mayor Gibson explains.

“Across our entire community, there was a consistent message about wanting waterfront development, increased tourism, arts and culture, improvements to streetscapes and for our heritage to be emphasised.”

The Council Plan serves as a ‘road map’ for the next four years to focus Council’s activities. The goals of the community, paired with the strategic direction of the Council have been combined and see five Key Focus Areas identified:

  • Connectivity

  • Economic Diversity, Growth and Prosperity

  • Sustainable Natural and Built Environments

  • Good Governance and a Healthy Organisation

  • Strong Healthy Communities

Our community told us that they want to remain strong and independent, but need support.

They want to be fresh and think outside the square, but need help.

They are up for a change, but love our heritage and natural environment.

And most of all, our community wants to come along on the journey with us.

During the next month there will be several opportunities for the community to meet with Council staff and Councillors to ask questions, seek clarification or simply just talk to us about the draft plan.

“Open, informal community meetings will be held on Tuesday 2 May at the Gateway Centre in Cohuna between 11am – 1pm, and Thursday 4 May at the front of the Council Chambers in Kerang between 11am – 1pm,” explains Mayor Gibson. “In addition, we will be going back out to nine community planning/progress groups during April and May.”

The draft Council Plan is now open for public submissions which can be made up until 5.00pm Monday 29 May 2017.
