Improvements to Fitzroy and Wellington streets, Kerang will occur later this year after Gannawarra Shire Council received Federal Government funding to proceed with the fourth stage of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment.

Council plans to allocate a portion of its $1.318 million contribution from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure to help fund the fourth stage of CBD upgrade works, which will build on improvements already completed in the Kerang central business district.

“Residents, visitors and business owners are already benefiting from the award-winning Victoria Square redevelopment and Stage 2 of the Kerang CBD redevelopment, which focused on Scoresby Street,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Stage 4 of this exciting project will link Fitzroy and Wellington streets with works planned to commence later in 2023 or early 2024.”

Inspired by work undertaken during the development of the Kerang CBD Master Plan, key features of Stage 4 of the redevelopment include:

  • Enhanced connections along Fitzroy Street between Wellington Street and Scoresby Street to tie this area in with the upgrades along Scoresby Street;
  • Replacing existing paved surfaces along Wellington Street between Nolan and Albert streets to connect with improvements along Scoresby Street and along Victoria Street; and
  • Installation of new street furniture and landscaping.

“The features of this concept design will revitalise these sections of the Kerang CBD, providing visual connections to the entire business precinct,” Mr Rollinson said.

Residents can have their say regarding the concept design between now and 5pm Friday, 24 March in the following ways:

  • By visiting Victoria Square on Wednesday, 15 March from 12 noon-1.30pm, where Councillors and Council staff will be available to answer your questions regarding the project.
  • By adding feedback to the conversation board located at Council’s Kerang Customer Service Centre.
  • By completing a Have Your Say form at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/KerangCBD

“All feedback received will assist with developing plans further prior to tendering for construction of the project,” Mr Rollinson said.
