Gannawarra Shire Council is seeking residents’ help to develop the next version of its Social Inclusion Strategy.

Council will spend the next five weeks continuing to work with residents to develop what will become the 2025-2029 Social Inclusion Strategy, which is Council’s commitment to ensuring all residents feel valued and part of everyday life.

“Council’s first Social Inclusion Strategy, which was adopted in 2019, has helped Council work with partner agencies and residents to reduce barrier for groups most at risk of being excluded from our community,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The next version of this important document will aim to build on this work, especially in supporting people with disability or who are culturally and linguistically diverse; Indigenous; those who identify as LGBTIQA+; young people; older people; and community members facing socioeconomic disadvantage.”

As part of work to develop the latest version of the strategy, residents who have visited pop-up sessions held as part of the 2025-2029 Gannawarra Shire Council Plan engagement program have been able to complete a survey asking about their views relating to being connected to their community, inclusiveness, barriers preventing people from joining community activities, and how Council can improve inclusion within the community.

Residents can complete the survey online by clicking on the “Social Inclusion Strategy 2025-2029” heading at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay or by collecting a copy from Council’s Customer Service Centres at Cohuna and Kerang.

All feedback received before 5pm Friday, 14 February will assist with developing the draft version of Council’s 2025-2029 Social Inclusion Strategy, which Council will seek residents’ views regarding in mid-2025.

Development of the 2025-2029 Social Inclusion Strategy is being supported by Victorian and Commonwealth Governments under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) as part of the Gannawarra Community Flood Recovery Program.
