Residents are encouraged to help Gannawarra Shire Council name an unnamed Kerang road.

Council received a request for the unnamed road, which connects Kerang-Koondrook Road and Lower Murray Water’s Kerang wastewater treatment facility, to be named White Cedar Lane, recognising the deciduous Australian native that is found throughout eastern Australia.

“As part of Victorian Department of Transport and Planning guidelines, any request to name or rename a road needs to be presented to the community for feedback prior to approval from Council,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“In this instance, the resident seeking a request to name this unnamed road was provided with various options from a predetermined list which was provided through community consultation, with White Cedar Lane the preferred option.

“Naming this road will also eliminate confusion in the community regarding its identification, with some online maps classifying it as Park Road.”

Residents can identify their support or opposition to the proposed naming of this road before 5pm Tuesday, 16 July by using one of the following options:

  • By clicking on the “Unnamed Kerang road naming” heading at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay and completing an online form.
  • By picking up a Have Your Say form from Council’s Customer Service Centres at Cohuna and Kerang and completing your form by the due date.
  • By phoning Council on (03) 5450 9333.
  • By emailing council@gsc.vic.gov.au.

“Residents who identify they oppose the proposed naming of this road will need to outline their object and/or provide an alternative name, with this feedback to help Council determine the future name of this road,” Mr Rollinson said.

“If alternative names are identified as part of this feedback process, Council is required to undertake an additional engagement period to determine the final recommended name for this road. If this does occur, details regarding proposed options and how residents can vote will be announced.”
