Help contribute to the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition

Photographs, drone footage, digital media, art, poetry and stories inspired by the October-December 2022 floods are being sought to develop the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition.

To premiere at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library in March 2024 before travelling to other towns and districts across the Gannawarra, the 100-piece exhibition forms part of the Gannawarra One-Year-On Flood Reflections program.

“Gathering a pictorial and social history of what was our second major flood event this century is an important step in our flood recovery journey and will provide residents with the opportunity to contribute their own experiences to be showcased,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.

“No matter the inspiration of your submission, be it something that depicts the devastation of the floodwaters, the reinvigoration of the environment once the water moved through, or the spirit of the community both during and following the flood event, everyone has their own unique story to tell.

“Showcasing a high-quality exhibition in 2024 to a local and regional audience will help to build hope and confidence for the future.”

Residents are invited to submit up to 10 items for consideration before 5pm Sunday, 21 January 2024, which can be done by completing a submission form available online under the Gannawarra Flood Reflections Exhibition heading at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/floods. Hard copies of this form are also available at Council’s Customer Service Centres at either Cohuna or Kerang for completion.

Each item submitted must include:

• The name and contact details of the photographer/creator;
• The date the photo/drone footage was taken, if applicable;
• The names of all identifiable people in any images;
• Identifiable location/landmark/activity;
• A short description of the piece being submitted; and
• Any other relevant information.

“Local schools are also invited to submit items created individually or collaboratively, such as a piece of art, poetry, or a storybook,” Mayor Stanton said.

Items selected to feature in the exhibition will be professionally presented and returned to contributors following the completion of the exhibition’s tour throughout the Gannawarra.

“Council will retain all digital images and drone footage submitted for historical records. This information will also guide the Gannawarra’s future flood planning,” Mayor Stanton said.
