Events will be held throughout the Gannawarra on Friday, 8 March as part of International Women’s Day.

Council, in partnership with Northern District Community Health and various agencies, will be supporting events in Kerang, Cohuna and Quambatook that aim to bring women from across the municipality together to inspire actions needed to continue the work to achieving a gender equal future.

The highlight of the day’s festivities will occur within Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library from 7am with the annual International Women’s Day Breakfast.

Hosted by Council’s Director Corporate Services, Amanda Wilson, this free event will enable attendees to hear from three guest speakers – nurse practitioner, Yvonne Fabry and small business owners, Amy Treacy and Rachel Robertson – about their passions and inspiration.

“During the past few years, the Gannawarra has become renowned for its International Women’s Day celebrations, and this year is no exception,” Ms Wilson said.

“This year’s International Women’s Day theme is Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress, which highlights that women’s economic empowerment is key to a gender equal world.”

“As a rural business mentor, this year's International Women's Day theme is especially significant. Being a role model and guiding women to believe that empowering themselves via education, developing leadership skills and investing in themselves and their businesses demonstrates that progress can be accelerated and that we can all be in control of our economic futures,” Ms Treacy said.
