Residents looking for different ways to keep fit this summer will have additional opportunities available at the Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools.

Gannawarra Shire Council, which manages both facilities, has expanded its popular lap swimming program, with more opportunities for visitors to either site to keep active.

“Lap swimming is a great way to keep active, no matter your age or swimming ability,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Our laps program has grown over the past few years, with many participants enjoying the social benefits that come from keeping fit as a group.”

As part of the expanded program, lanes will be available during the following times from Sunday, 1 December to Friday, 28 February:

  • Cohuna Swimming Pool: 6am-8am Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 8am-10am Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Kerang Swimming Pool: 6pm-7pm Mondays and Wednesdays, 8am-10am Tuesdays and Fridays, and 6am-8am Thursdays.

Popular water aerobics programs will also occur at both sites during the season, with information regarding session times and costs available at each location.

“Council thanks our dedicated group of lifeguards and local water aerobics instructors to enable both programs to occur, providing additional opportunities for visitor to both sites to keep active,” Mr Rollinson said.

The start of summer will also coincide with the extension of opening hours at both swimming pools, with new arrangements in place this season to maximise service availability and staffing. These new arrangements are:

“Residents are advised that the Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools will be closed on days the Bureau of Meteorology website’s forecast temperature for either Cohuna or Kerang is 23 degrees Celsius or lower,” Mr Rollinson said.
