Works associated with the Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 along Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets will begin on Monday, 12 July.
The improvements, which are part of the $1.317 million project funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, are part of continued efforts to link the Kerang Railway Station, the award-winning Victoria Square precinct and the Kerang Open Space Precinct, located between Albert and Victoria streets.
“Council is pleased to have worked with the community during the past 12 months to finalise these improvements and looks forward to the start of construction,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Once completed, these improvements within the Kerang central business district will provide spaces where residents and visitors can socialise and explore what Kerang has to offer.”
Improvements that will occur as part of the works include the installation of bench seating and creating dedicated outdoor seating areas outside the Royal Hotel and Gray’s Bakery.
“Following consultation with traders and the broader community, some of the trees currently located along this section of Scoresby Street will be removed and replaced with new mature varieties,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“All trees along this section of road have also been assessed by an independent arborist, with any trees that are deemed to not be in good health to be removed.”
Scoresby Street will remain open to motorists whilst these works occur, with the speed limit reduced to 40 kilometres per hour. Pedestrian access diversions will be in place, with all businesses to remain open thanks to the provision of temporary access.
“Council thanks residents, business owners and visitors for their patience as these works occur and looks forward to the completion of this project at the end of the year,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Council will keep residents updated on the Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 via its website, Facebook page, Gannawarra News and Gannawarra Connect.
