Visitors to the Victoria Street section of Kerang’s central business district are benefiting from improvements to car parking spaces completed as part of Stage 3 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment.

Fully funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the first part of the $2.31 million project focused on the eastern section of Victoria Street between Scoresby Street and Victoria Square.

Work completed so far includes reducing the steep variant between the road and shops in this section of Victoria Street, with work to remodel the parking bays completed earlier today, enabling car parking spaces that had been closed since 1 May to reopen.

“Businesses owners and shoppers will benefit from improvements completed during May and June, which has eliminated the need for shoppers to step up into businesses located in this popular section of the Kerang CBD,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Recent rainfall unfortunately delayed the completion of these works, however Council thanks business owners, shoppers and residents for their patience whilst these improvements occurred.”

Work will soon begin along the southeastern section of Victoria Street between Victoria Square and Wellington Street, which will include replacing paved surfaces to tie this area in with other recently completed improvements throughout the Kerang CBD.  This will upgrade outdoor dining areas for hospitality businesses and beautify the area around the Karlie McDonald Memorial Clock at the intersection of Wellington and Victoria streets.

“Shoppers and business owners are advised that pedestrian access around work sites will be diverted whilst these improvements occur, however Council will endeavour to keep these disruptions to the shortest possible time period,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Council thanks residents, business owners and visitors for their patience as these works occur and looks forward to the completion of this part of the project by December.”
