Kerang CBD Redevelopment - Stages 3 and 4 officially opened
Published on 22 April 2025
Kerang residents and visitors are benefiting from the completion of Stages 3 and 4 of the town’s CBD Redevelopment.
Gannawarra Shire Council’s Mayor Garner Smith and fellow councillors officially opened the $2.54 million project on 17 April 2025, with the opening held as part of the Kerang Street Party.
“It was fantastic to see Kerang’s residents and business owners, as well as visitors to the Gannawarra come together on Easter Thursday to celebrate this special occasion,” Mayor Smith said.
“These improvements have already been embraced by the community, with residents and traders taking advantage of the improved walkways, green areas and rejuvenated car parking spaces.”
Fully funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, work occurred between March 2023 and August 2024 to transform the Fitzroy, Victoria and Wellington street sections of the Kerang CBD. Works included:
- Upgrading paving along Victoria and Wellington streets;
- Installing wider footpaths along Fitzroy Street
- Improving street furniture and landscaping throughout the Kerang CBD.
- Redesigning kerbing along the northeastern section of Victoria Street, enabling easier access for pedestrians accessing vehicles and stores, and
- Installing new lighting around the Karlie McDonald Memorial clock tower.
“Stages 3 and 4 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment were key outcomes from the Kerang CBD Masterplan, which identified key locations for our residents and visitors, and what improvements can be made to link these key locations,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“These improvements tie in with the transformation of Victoria Square, which was officially opened in 2018, and Stage 2 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment, which focused on Scoresby Street.
“Council thanks the Federal Government for funding these improvements, all tradespeople who worked on the project and our traders for their patience as these improvements occurred.”
