Kerang CBD roadworks update
Published on 24 March 2020
Works to upgrade the intersection of Scoresby and Victoria streets, Kerang are continuing after delays caused by a significant rain event.
The resurfacing of the intersection forms part of a greater works program to reconstruct two of the town’s busiest Council-managed roads due to extensive cracking.
“Works to remove the road surface at the intersection of Scoresby and Victoria streets, which had been a scheduled project, occurred at the end of February,” Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Phil Higgins said.
“A layer of crushed rock was added to the road surface of the intersection earlier this month to improve drivability after Kerang received the average March rainfall in the space of 24 hours. The asphalt contractors were due to complete the works on this day but have now had to be rescheduled.
“A holding seal was applied to the road surface at the intersection on 18 March, which should reduce the level of dust raised by the number of motorists who use the intersection.”
The final stage of works – which includes the asphalting at the intersection, as well as the length of Victoria Street in Kerang’s central business district; the intersection of Fitzroy and Scoresby streets; and Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets – will occur in late April.
“To ensure minimal disruption, the stabilisation of pavement along these sections of road will occur on weekends and all asphalting works will be completed at night,” Mr Higgins said.
“In the meantime, Council will continue to monitor the condition of the intersection of Scoresby and Victoria streets to reduce dust levels or repair any potholes that may develop.
“Council thanks motorists, residents and business owners for their patience as these important works are undertaken.”
The reconstruction of the roads within Kerang’s central business district are part of Council’s annual sealed road maintenance program.
