Kervins Road bridge replacement begins

Work to replace the Kervins Road bridge at Cohuna with a new concrete structure started earlier today.
Construction of the bridge will be welcome news for residents, with a 30-tonne load limit in place for the original bridge that spans Barr Creek in place since March 2024.
“The original Kervins Road bridge enabled vehicles to access the Murray Valley Highway or McMillans Road without the need to travel through Cohuna’s residential or industrial areas,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Replacing the bridge with a concrete structure will provide current and future generations of motorists access to this road.”
Whilst these works are occurring, the bridge will be closed to all traffic until the new structure is in place. Detours will be in place along Cohuna-McMillans Road, Western Road and Murray Valley Highway whilst these improvements occur, which is scheduled for completion in mid-February.
“Council thanks residents, visitors and motorists for their patience and looks forward to seeing this project completed as soon as possible,” Mr Rollinson said.
The replacement of the Kervins Road bridge, as well as the recently completed construction of the Apex Park Road bridge, form part of Council’s $29 million capital works program, with the works supported by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
